Movement Parties from the Left and their Political Consequences in Latin America and Southern Europe

Talk by Kenneth M. Roberts (Cornell University)

Join us on Monday, October 14, at 5:30 p.m. for a public webinar on "Movement Parties from the Left and their Political Consequences in Latin America and Southern Europe."

The event will begin with an introduction by Kenneth M. Roberts (Cornell University), who will explore the political impact of left-wing movement parties in Latin America, highlighting how their rapid rise from street protests to political power has reshaped the political landscape and sparked new alignments and counter-movements.

Donatella della Porta (Scuola Normale Superiore) will provide a commentary reflecting on the legacy of left-wing movement parties in Southern Europe during the Great Recession. The session will be moderated by Sofía Donoso (Universidad de Chile).

The public webinar is part of a workshop on "Movement Parties and Backlash Politics in Latin America and Southern Europe," co-organized by Sofía Donoso and Swen Hutter (WZB & FU Berlin), which brings together scholars from Latin America, Europe, and the United States for two days of discussions.

This talk is part of the Lecture Series Civil Society and Political Conflict.
