Angela Tatjana Köckritz
Short bio
Angela Köckritz, born 1977 in Munich, studied Political Sciences, Sinology and History of Art in Berlin, Munich and Tainan, Taiwan. After her M.A. she completed a two year traineeship (Volontariat) at Süddeutsche Zeitung, the biggest German daily newspaper. In 2007 she started as a foreign reporter and editor at DIE ZEIT, the biggest German weekly newspaper. She worked as the East Asia Correspondent for DIE ZEIT from 2011 to 2014, living in Beijing. She was awarded the Merics Prize for outstanding China coverage. Her book Wolkenläufer (Cloudwalker) about individualization and society in China was published in 2015. In 2015 she returned to the political department of DIE ZEIT in Hamburg, mainly covering the rise of the populist right wing in Europe. From 2017 to 2020 she worked as Africa Correspondent from Dakar, Senegal, for DIE ZEIT, Geo, Mare and Brand Eins. Her ZEIT Dossier about the textile industry in Ethiopia won the Vogel prize for outstanding economic reporting. Currently Angela Köckritz works in Berlin as a freelance writer and journalist. During her Journalist at Residence Programme at the WZB (Department of Migration and Integration) she will do research on the Structure of the Senegalese family and how it shapes migration for a ZEIT Dossier. Furthermore she is doing research on changing family structures in Germany for a book (Berlin Verlag). Köckritz is very interested in the topics of Urban Sociology and Future of Work. Köckritz speaks German, English, Chinese, Spanish and French.
