Digitalization and Societal Transformation
Digitalization represents one of the most pressing challenges of our time. The future of societal and political participation, economic prosperity and good work depend on how we make sense of digital technologies and the Internet. With the erosion of established hierarchies and orders, both new problems and options have emerged. Understanding the ongoing digital transformation is key to ensure democracy and societal self-determination. Against this backdrop, the research units in the research area focus on three central issues: (1) Pluralisation of mobility practices and its consequences for the transformation of transportation (Digital Mobility and Social Differentiation Research Group), (2) new forms of governance to shape the digital transformation (Politics of Digitalization Research Group) and (3) the changing ways in which work is organized (Globalization, Work, and Production Research Group).
